Fragments of Her

South African performing artist and three times World Games equestrian Cara Frew, presents a poignant exploration of a mother-daughter relationship fraught with unspoken emotions and lingering impact.

As the narrative progresses, viewers are drawn into Sienna’s world, where she struggles with her mother's harsh criticism and her own identity in her absence. The tension crescendos in the barn restroom, where Sienna’s frantic attempts to perfect her appearance mirror her inner turmoil and longing for her mother's approval.

The film concludes with Sienna confronting the emotional void left by her mother, reflecting on the bittersweet legacy of their relationship. The poignant ending reveals a deep, unfulfilled yearning for the acceptance she will never receive.

This short film not only showcases Cara’s creative talents as a first time writer, producer, and actor with a deep connection to horses, but also marks a significant milestone as she shares the screen with her real-life mother, Colleen, for the first time. A moving testament to the complexities of family bonds and life after loss.
